Laundry

I’m sure my mom would agree that—of all my household chores—laundry is my least favorite. Usually, I wait until I have no clean clothes left and then do it all at once.

Living here—doing laundry is still not my favorite thing to do, but I’ve come to enjoy it.

I usually wash clothes about twice a week, and it involves filling one wash bucket with soap and water for wash and another bucket for rinsing. Usually–because it is dry season here and running water is limited—I fill the buckets from the well. Then, piece by piece, I wash each thing with a bar of soap and the washboard. During this time of year the clothes dry really fast; I like how crisp the dry clothes when I fold them up.

Though it is more work to wash clothes here than it is at home, I like the fact that doing laundry gives me time to just sit and think, and I feel like I’ve accomplished something substantial when I’m done.
