Now that I have been in Liberia for almost two months there are many things which no longer seem odd. Many things have become second nature.
For example, sometimes having to take bucket showers, or always wearing shoes, and all the praying.
Praying has always been a big part of my life. I grew up always praying before meals, at church, before bed, and other personal prayers. Since I have been on the mission I have been able to see how prayer is a part of so many other parts of life. And how much prayer can make you feel God’s presence in all parts of the day.
Here at the mission there is morning prayer, a prayer at the start of the school day, prayer at noon, nightly prayer, and prayers before each meal. Prayer has become more integrated into my every day life. Not to mention all the more spontaneous prayers, from when we get in the car to go somewhere, praying with and for the sick and bereaved, or for someone’s birthday. I have thought the song for people birthdays is cool because not only do they sing “Happy Birthday” they sing to the same tune ” may Good bless you”.
It is in those prayers and blessings that I can feel God’s over whelming presence.
