Sometimes You Have to get Creative

Sometimes you have to get creative. In life you don’t always have a lot of what you need. I have seen more of that during my time in Liberia.

Last week for the feast day off St. Francis of Assisi, we decided to make a cake to celebrate. We were not planning a traditional “American” cake but one of the cooks in the kitchen (Grace) makes this amazing sweet bread so she made that. There is an oven here in the international kitchen, but it is currently broken. So instead we used the oven in the main kitchen. This oven however is a bit different. The heat comes from a coal pot which is set in the bottom of an old all metal refrigerator It works great however it is a completely different from ovens I am used to.

Then because we didn’t have the ingredients on hands to make icing we made chocolate custard instead. After everyone ate dinner, Grace and I handed out a slice of cake to everyone on the mission. Everyone loved it and was so happy to have cake.

Another perfect reminder of how sometimes it is the little things in life that makes all the difference.
