I’ve made it–I landed in Liberia around 9:30 PM Saturday. The trip was mostly uneventful, though it was a long flight. The airport in Monrovia is very small, after getting off the plane on to the runway, everyone was shuttled to the main building. After clearing customs and gathering my luggage I headed outside to meet John, Grace, and Emmanuel. John and Grace are other missionaries who are currently working at the mission; Emmanuel is one of the boys who lives at the mission. I’m very grateful that they met me at the airport—we didn’t get back to the mission until midnight.
After a slight delay with the mission bus (it was raining hard and the windshield wipers broke on the way to the airport so the van had to turn around and the got a taxi back to the airport.) After John, Grace, and Emmanuel got to the airport we turned around and headed back to the mission. It was an hour journey in a taxi. I was tired but very excited to have finally arrived.
During the ride to the mission, John and Grace gave me some more details about Liberia and what the mission schedule looked like from day to day.
On my first full day at the mission I started meeting people, got a tour of everything, and got settled into my room.
I’m already busy helping in the kitchen, learning about Liberian culture, and meeting all the people who have worked here over summer. I have started to get use to all the animals-donkeys, cows, cats, dogs, chickens, goats, and pigs.
School here doesn’t start until next Monday. Until then I will be helping to prepare for everyone to return, helping to cook Liberian food, and getting ready for the school year to come.
I look forward to keep you all updated as the school year starts.
